Strait was named the ACM Artist of the Decade for the 2000s, joining only four other artists who have received this distinction: Marty Robbins for the 1960s, Loretta Lynn for the 1970s, Alabama for the 1980s and Garth Brooks for the 1990s.
This first-ever ACM Artist of the Decade television special, produced by dick clark productions, was taped at MGM Grand Garden Arena in April of 2009. Proceeds from the live concert benefited ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy of Country Music.
